dolgellau - mountain biking

The minor taur

This is a Blue route and great for beginners getting into MTB. I enjoyed doing it as a warm up with Pepper before venturing on to the Red route.

Duration: 1 hour

Difficulty: Easy (blue)

Parking: The Coed y Brenin mountain bike trails are managed and maintained by Natural Resources Wales. Car parking at Coed y Brenin costs £1 for 1 hour, £3 for 3 hours or £5 for the day – the money collected goes towards maintaining and improving the trails. Luckily you can pay on card so you don't need to scramble around for loose change.

Cost: £1

Location: Coed y Brenin Visitor Centre

Paws for thought: This route is the most popular route so make sure to go early in the morning or later in the evening.

Cyflym Coch

This trail is a little trickier with some technical bits and fast flowing sections complimented with short climbs. It's 12.6km so a nice ride giving you some lovely forest views.

If you are a little unsure about your ability for any mountain bike route we recommend watching a video on YouTube first. There usually is one for any trail you attempt, so if you are a bit like Jess and need to see a preview to assess if you can do it, then watch this.

Duration: 1 hour 30 ish

Difficulty: Difficult (red)

Parking: Same as above

Cost: £2

Location: Coed y Brenin Visitor Centre

Paws for thought: These routes can get a little muddy (especially in winter). Pack a towel to sit on in the car so you don't make a mess of your seat or bring a change of clothes to avoid carrying all the mud you collected on the trails in to your car.
